+ Workshop on Emotion and Computing - Current Research and Future Impact

9th Workshop at KI2019

Due to the increasing digitization, more and more adequate interfaces between the human and the digital world are needed. This includes the human emotion as one aspect of communication. The workshop series focuses on the role of affect and emotion in computer systems including the three research areas of emotion recognition, emotion generation (or expression) and emotion modeling, with special attention to AI specific problems and applications. Both shallow and deep models of emotion are in the focus of interest. Because emotional statements are often not formulated in terms of logic, it would be interesting to see how uncertain and vague notions and unconventional logic models could be used. Emotional or affective computing has drawn a strong interest in various fields from speech synthesis and dialogue systems to virtual reality and robotics. One popular application context for the various affective computing techniques is gamification, serious games and educational software systems. An extension of the conventional notion of affective computing is to add character and personality traits into the equation. The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for the presentation of the research done towards emotions and computing as well as the existing and possible future applications of this domain. The aim is to spark a lively discussion among academics, researchers and the industry.

This year the workshop will take place at the KI 2019 at Kassel (September 23-24th).

CALL FOR PAPERS

The presented papers should discuss work in progress, theories, architectures as well as applications which are based upon emotional aspects of computing. The contributions of the workshop series come from the following fields:

  • Artificial Intelligence Research
  • Cognitive Sciences and Cognitive Robotics
  • Multi-agent System Technology
  • Speech Synthesis,Speech Recognition and psychoacoustic phaenomena
  • Dialogue Systems and Communication
  • Modelling Uncertainty and Vagueness
  • Computer Game Development / Serious Games
  • User Modelling and Personalization
  • Applications using models of emotion
  • Affective Computing
  • Persuasive Computing/Technologies

The organizers would like to encourage researchers and participants from industry to bring their applications as well as their prototypes for demonstration to the workshop. If sufficient interest is shown, one of the workshop sessions will be reserved for demonstrations followed by a discussion session. Contributions are expected in the following form:

  • Presentations should have a duration of 15-20 minutes. They are documented by a short research paper which should cover 4-8 pages in total
  • Demonstrations are documented by an extended abstract which should not exceed 1 page in total
  • Please use Springer LNCS style. The workshop proceedings will be published online (ISSN 1865-6374).
Important Dates:
  • July, 1st: deadline for short research paper proposals and demo proposals
  • July, 15th : acceptance notification
  • July, 29th : deadline for camera-ready paper
